Secondary Education Degrees

At Nevada State College we believe Secondary Education is the capstone of the public academic experience. While it is the goal of elementary education teachers to inspire their students to ask "why", it is the mission of the secondary education teacher to lead their students in supplying quality, educated answers to those questions. Under the guidance of college faculty, our secondary education candidates work to combine their content knowledge with effective educational methods and strategies so that they can assume a role as learning facilitator rather than simply an information giver. At Nevada State, our secondary educators are not seen as a master of content knowledge but rather as guides leading students on a journey of mature academic investigation, examination and research. Our teachers are trained to help students develop and solidify their ability to investigate crucial issues, locate quality information, conduct valid research and communicate their findings using a variety of mediums. All preservice secondary education students at Nevada State College are provided with a knowledge base in classroom management, allowing them to develop the skills they will need to create a productive learning environment for all of their future students.

Most importantly, Nevada State secondary education candidates instill in their students the belief that the journey of learning has just begun and that a lifetime of learning awaits them.
