Meet the Star
Arturo Torres celebrated his third anniversary with Nevada State College in August 2008. He has built a reputation as someone who will always go out of his way to help others. In the Office of the Registrar, he provides detailed answers to questions about admissions, registration and residency. Whether it's students, faculty or staff that need his expertise, he makes himself available. His coworker Joanne Plumeri calls him "friendly, personable and kind."
Arturo's customer service skills are legendary at NSC. Coworker LaShawnda Hemphill says, "everybody comes to him with all of these different problems, and he always has a solution, all day and every day."
Arturo's favorite hobby is working on vintage cars. Unfortunately, he recently had to sell his beloved 1962 Chevy Impala. He had purchased this car when he was 18 and fixed it up himself over the years.
Although Arturo says that he enjoys his job and, he really loves to be at home with his wife Liliana and their three children. Kevin, the oldest, is 9, Eliana just turned 2 on September 21 and the baby, Gabriella, is 6 months old.
Fun Facts
- Other classic cars Arturo has owned and fixed up include a 1955 Volkswagon and a 1966 Ford Mustang.
- When asked if he has a "dream car" he would love to own, Arturo says that he'd just like to be able to buy back his precious 1962 Chevy Impala.
