NSC's Greatest Needs

LAS Top Opportunity: The Writing Center

NSC wishes to implement a Writing Center because it is hard to imagine a more important skill for college students to master than to write well for a variety of audiences. Approximately half of NSC's incoming students are placed into remedial writing classes. Recognizing the importance of writing and the need to assist students beyond the classroom environment, virtually every college or university in the United States possesses a Writing Center.

The Director would set up the foundation and fundamentals of the Writing Center which would help students, faculty, and the community with various writing projects. Tutors would provide students with assistance and instruction on how to write effective papers or other assignments, not edit or ghost write any portion of papers. Supplies and materials are to help set up the physical infrastructure of the writing center.
