Information for Graduating Students
Graduating students may have a lot of questions about preparing for and attending commencement. They can find everything they need to know here.
Caps and Gowns
Caps and Gowns are ordered through the NSC Bookstore (both locations). Contact the Bookstore at (702) 992-2340 or (702) 9343, or visit the NSC Bookstore Graduation website for more information.
Honor Stoles
Students who are graduating with honors, will receive the appropriate stole when they purchase a cap and gown.
- Those graduating with distinction will receive a silver stole.
- Those graduating with high distinction will receive a gold stole.
Name Cards
When purchasing a cap and gown, a name card will also be issued. Each student must bring this card to the commencement ceremony. This name card is what is handed to the dean of your school, when you cross the stage, so your name can be read. Any student graduating with honors, will have the honors listed on his or her name card.
Announcements
Personalized announcements may be ordered through the NSC Bookstore website. The NSC Bookstore will also carry general announcements in both stores. Contact the Bookstore at (702) 992-2340 or (702) 9343, or visit the NSC Bookstore Graduation website for more information.

Assembly of Family and Friends
Family and friends may sit in any seat in the audience (that is not otherwise labeled as reserved) or on the grass hill behind the seating.
Parking
Parking is available in the Pavilion lot. It is free of charge.
Decorum
Dress and behavior should reflect the honor of the occasion. Remember that graduates will have to walk up and down stage steps, so wear appropriate shoes.
Photography
Photography and videotaping will be allowed during the ceremony. All photographers are reminded to not obstruct the view of the audience. Each graduate will have sufficient time to pause on the stand for photographs.
There will be an official photographer taking pictures as graduates cross the stage. Pictures will be available on-line at www.digiproofs.com within 2 days of the ceremony. All orders can be placed directly through the Digiproofs website.

Tassels
At the beginning of commencement, tassels are worn on the right. Graduates will receive direction from the podium when it is time to move the tassel to the left.
Social Gathering
The ceremony will last approximately an hour and 30 minutes (7:00 to 8:30pm). A short social gathering will immediately follow the ceremony just inside the Pavilion gates. This will give faculty an opportunity to meet with students and their families.
Diploma
During commencement, graduates are only handed a diploma cover as they cross the stage. Personalized diplomas will be mailed in approximately six weeks of the commencement ceremony, except in cases where students need to complete additional credits. Transcripts indicating degrees earned will be available 1 week after grades are due for the semseter. Transcripts are not automatically sent. Graduates must fill out a Transcript Request form with the Office of the Registrar to receive an official transcript.
