How to Apply for Financial Aid
Applying for financial aid consists of a few steps. Opportunities for federal, state and foundation aid increase when bothe the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and the NSC Scholarship and Grant-in-Aid Applications are completed by the priority file date of each academic year.
FAFSA Application
Students must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) before either federal or state financial assistance can be determined. There are even some scholarships that require students to demonstrate financial need by completing the FAFSA.
Nevada State College highly recommends the completion of both applications to allow for more financial assistance opportunities for NSC students.
All students must be admitted to Nevada State College in a degree seeking program before they will be considered for any financial assistance opportunities at NSC. Non-degree seeking students do not qualify for financial assistance.
The processing time for the FAFSA typically takes 6-8 weeks from the time an application is submitted online. Students must respond promptly to requests for additional information to maintain their priority status.
Print FAFSA Step-by-Step Instructions.
Proceed to the FAFSA website.
Scholarship and Grant-in-Aid Application
Nevada State College recommends that students apply for as many financial aid opportunities as possible to assist with their educational expenses. Students should complete both the NSC Scholarship and Grant-in-Aid Application and the FAFSA by the posted priority file date of March 1st to be given priority consideration for scholarships for the following academic year.
Students who meet the scholarship requirements established by donors who have provided scholarship funding are eligible to apply and receive Nevada State College Scholarships. Some scholarships require financial need, which requires that students have completed the FAFSA before being considered.
To obtain an NSC Scholarship and Grant-In-Aid Application, visit the Student Financial Services and Scholarships Office. When completing the applications, be sure to answer all questions and provide a written statement as requested.
Financial Aid Application Deadlines
The earlier a student applies for financial assistance the better opportunity he or she will have to receive the needed aid before courses begin.
Students are advised to complete the NSC Scholarship and Grant-in-Aid Application and Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) before the Priority File Date. Doing so guarantees that students receive the best consideration for federal and state assistance and scholarships awarded by Nevada State College. Students who apply late need to meet the recommended file date if they wish to be considered for federal assistance and any remaining state aid. This will also assist with having their financial aid eligibility determined prior to the start of the semester.
