- Student Financial Services & Scholarships (SFSS) is pleased to provide you a personal checklist for completing your financial aid application.
-
- Students who have applied for financial aid and who have access to their NSC Student Account can view their personal NSC financial aid status. Periodically review your student account for ‘Missing Document’ and ‘Offer Letter’ information. Be sure to review the information on the Key Financial Aid Dates pages.
-
- If you do not already have a Federal Personal Identification Number (PIN) visit the U.S. Department of Education’s website at http://www.PIN.ed.gov/. The PIN serves as your electronic signature on your Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The PIN allows you to access your personal information within various U.S. Department of Education systems. If applicable, parents may also need to request a PIN.
-
- Submit your Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) or renewal FAFSA to the federal processor as soon as possible after January 1 of each year. SFSS strongly encourages students to use their PIN to file the FAFSA on-line at http://www.fafsa.ed.gov/. Nevada State College's Federal School Code is 041143.
-
- Approximately two to four weeks after the federal processor receives your FAFSA, you will receive a Student Aid Report (SAR) from the U.S. Department of Education that summarizes the data you reported on the FAFSA. Review your SAR for accuracy. If corrections are necessary, use your PIN to make them on-line at http://www.fafsa.ed.gov/. Keep the SAR for your records; do not submit it to SFSS.
-
- Retain copies of your completed FAFSA, corrections you make to your FAFSA, and all IRS tax forms. Applicants for federal assistance may be required to submit last year’s tax forms to SFSS.
-
- When required, SFSS will notify you to request additional documents that are needed to finalize your financial aid eligibility. Most documents may be downloaded and printed form SFSS website, Financial Aid forms and Online Resources.
-
- Once SFSS receives your completed FAFSA information and you have been admitted as a freshman or transfer student into a degree-seeking program, a NSC Financial Aid Offer letter will be available through your on-line student account. SFSS will also mail you a notification that your Financial Aid Offer letter is available on-line.
-
- Promptly notify SFSS in writing if you receive any scholarships, grants, loans, or other forms of financial aid that are not listed on your NSC Financial Aid Offer letter.
-
- New borrowers in the Federal Stafford Loan program are required to complete an Electronic Master Promissory note through their lender and an Entrance Counseling Session through EdFund. Guidance on how to complete each of these requirements will be provided to you along with your Financial Aid Offer letter.
-
- Financial assistance for the summer semester is limited and available to students who have residual Federal Pell Grant, Federal Stafford Loan, Federal Parent Loan, and/or Nursing Loan Program funds remaining. If you are interested in identifying if you have residual funds available for the summer you can visit SFSS or submit the NSC Summer Supplemental Application. The NSC Summer Supplemental Application will be available on-line mid-March on the Financial Aid Forms and Online Resources page.
-
- Parents of dependent students who wish to apply for a Federal Parent Loan for Undergraduate Students (PLUS) should annually submit the PLUS Loan Activation Form for pre-certification to SFSS beginning in May for the fall semester, November for the spring semester, and April for the summer semester. The PLUS Loan Activation form is available on the Financial Aid Forms and Online Resources page.
-
- You are strongly encouraged to complete the NSC Scholarship and Grant-in-Aid Application, in addition to the FAFSA. By completing both the FAFSA and the NSC Scholarship and Grant-in-Aid Application you are increasing your chances of receiving the best possible aid package. You further increase your opportunities by meeting the March 1st Priority File Date. The updated NSC Scholarship and Grant-in-Aid Application becomes available each year mid-November. Be certain you have completed the current year as well as the upcoming academic year applications.
