- Do I have to attend orientation? Why?
Yes. All students who are new to Nevada State College must attend Orientation. We provide this opportunity to assist you in transitioning from your present institution or area of life to the Nevada State College experience. There are two options for Orientation, In-Person or On-line. All New Freshman students must attend In-Person Orientation. Transfer students have the option of attending either the In-Person or On-line Orientation.
- Will I have the opportunity to take the placement exam/register/meet with an advisor during orientation?
During the last hour of orientation, there are Breakout Sessions. These sessions include opportunities for academic advisement, placement exams, and registration for those students who have not completed these tasks prior to Orientation.
- What if I do not attend orientation?
Orientation is planned for your benefit as student. Students who do not fulfill this final step in their admission will have a hold placed on their student accounts, which prevents them from registering for classes and receiving transcripts. The hold will be lifted once the student has successfully completed Orientation.
- Is Parent Orientation mandatory?
While we strongly recommend that students bring a parent, guardian, friend or other source of support to Parent Orientation, it is not mandatory. Nevada State College is committed to the success of its students on all levels, which is why we have tailored an Orientation session especially for those who serve to support the student outside of the college.
- How do I become an Orientation Team Leader?
Anyone who has been a student for at least a semester and maintained a 2.0 GPA is eligible to become an Orientation Team Leader. This is the perfect opportunity to gain leadership and teambuilding skills, mentor new students, and make new friends, while having a great time! Visit the Office of Admissions and Orientation for more details.
