Occupational Science/Occupational Therapy Prerequisites and Curriculum...
Occupational Science is an academic discipline focusing on human occupation and forms the foundation for the practice of occupational therapy. Occupational therapists work in a variety of settings and with many diverse populations. According to the American Occupational Therapy Association (2007), "occupational therapy is skilled treatment that helps individuals achieve independence in all facets of their lives. Occupational therapy assists people in developing the skills for the job of living necessary for independent and satisfying lives."
The Occupational Science Program at Nevada State College (NSC) is part of a 3+2 program offered with Touro University Nevada's School of Occupational Therapy (TUNSOT). Students will attend NSC for three years and complete the last two years at TUNSOT. Students must apply for admission to TUNSOT and need to have earned a sufficient GPA to be admitted. After one year of successful coursework at TUNSOT, students will transfer their credits back to NSC and earn a Bachelor of Science degree in Occupational Science. After successful completion of the remainder of the occupational therapy at TUNSOT, students will earn a Master of Science degree in occupational therapy. Currently, entry level to become an occupational therapist is at the masters degree level.
