Professor Owens was born in Sacramento, CA, and spent the first 42 years of her life there. She got her B.A. in English with a teaching emphasis and double minors in Native American Studies and Cultural Anthropology from the University of California at Davis in 1985, and her M.A. in English from California State University, Hayward in 1992. She taught at Solano Community College and Sierra College in northern California. In addition to teaching, she loves to read, hike, visit old cemeteries, and work with horses.
