Academic Advising

Important Tips for Transfer Students

Check your DARS (Degree Audit Report) for Accuracy

Be sure that all of the classes you have completed are listed on your DARS. If you're not sure what a DARS is, click here.

Review your DARS (Degree Audit Report) with an Academic Advisor

Your advisor can help you make sure that you do not register for courses that you have already satisfied through credits transferred from another college. If you're not sure what a DARS is, click here.

Have your transcripts sent to Nevada State College

If you are currently enrolled in courses at other institutions, be sure to have an official transcript sent to Nevada State College after your grades are posted. Have your transcripts sent to the following address:

Office of Admissions
Nevada State College
1125 Nevada State Drive
Henderson, NV 89002

Consider how many credits you have and how many you'll need

As you consider what courses to take at Nevada State College, it is important to be aware of the different credit requirements for your degree. Specifically, you must take 32 upper division credits from NSC and 1/2 of the credits required for your degree must be earned from a 4-year college or university. For example, the Nursing program alone is only 55 credits. So, a student transferring from a two-year college into the Nursing program would need to take nine additional credits at NSC (to meet the required 64) before graduating.

Check the prerequisites for courses you need to take

When selecting courses, please pay close attention to the prerequisites. You must have completed the listed prerequisite courses before registering for the class. If you find yourself unable to register for a class, double-check the prerequisites. This is usually where the problem lies. If you have met the prerequisites and still cannot register, contact the Office of the Registrar.

Read the New Student Checklist and How to Prepare for Advising.

These will both be very helpful as you get ready to register and select classes.
