What is a Provost?

As the chief academic and student officer for Nevada State College, the Provost is responsible for the design, development, organization, delivery, supervision, assessment, evaluation, and fiscal management of a comprehensive program of instruction and learning, enrollment management, and the student experience. Responsibilities of the provost also include recruitment and retention of qualified faculty and academic administrators as well as collaboration with the Faculty Senate. The Provost is also responsible for guiding the college’s curriculum development and assessment.

Additionally, the Provost has overall leadership and responsibility for the following academic units: Bachelor of Applied Sciences Programs, School of Education, School of Liberal Arts & Sciences, and School of Nursing. Besides working closely with the academic deans and directors, the Provost also directly supervises the Vice Provost of Student Experience, the Director of the Center of Teaching and Learning Excellence, Coordinator of the Community Based Learning Programs, and the Instructional Technology Department to ensure that the mission of Nevada State College is achieved.

The Provost is appointed by the President upon the consideration of the Chancellor. The Provost is accountable to the President and acts on the behalf of the President in his or her absence. Under the direction of the President, the Provost works cooperatively and collaboratively as part of the executive management team.

 

Meet the Provost

Nevada State College recently named Dr. Lesley Ann Di Mare provost of the college. She began her position on July 1.

Di Mare, brings to the college more than 30 years of experience in the education field, reports to the president, serves as the chief academic officer of the college and is responsible for all operations related to academic planning, programs and resources, educational policy and allocation of resources and support. Di Mare will work closely with all of NSC’s senior officers.

“Lesley’s vast experience in starting new programs is a perfect fit for us as a young college,” said NSC President Dr. Fred Maryanski. “Her knowledge will serve us well as we continue to serve the needs of Nevada.”

Prior to her hire at NSC, Di Mare served Arizona State University as its associate vice provost for undergraduate initiatives and academic programs.
