Dr. Roberta Kaufman has worked as a Pk-12 special educator, university faculty, and administrator in Minnesota and South Dakota prior to coming to Nevada State College. Her work has been in both rural and urban settings with diverse populations. Her professional experience includes coordinating a state-funded grant involving partnership between a university and a metropolitan school district to design and implement a teacher preparation program for underrepresented populations. She also developed and initiated a training program aimed at retaining individuals hired to serve as special educators in a diverse urban school district.
Dr. Kaufman presents at local, state, national, and international conferences. She was selected to study in Senegal, Africa, as a Fulbright scholar where she researched the preparation of teachers to work with students with disabilities. In 2010 a book she co-authored, Powerful Practices for High-performing Special Educators, was published by Corwin Press.
