When you graduated from high school, were you certain as to what you wanted to do as a career?

“After graduation I was uncertain as to what I wanted to do. I had a big passion to help other people and dreamt of being a motivational speaker, but really wasn’t certain how to accomplish that.”

How did you initially hear about Nevada State College?

“My sister suggested I look into Nevada State College. She said I could always go back to life as it was, but I’d never really have the opportunity to step out and try something different.”

How did you decide on becoming a Psychology major?

“I started out in nursing, but as time went on I realized that really wasn’t what I wanted to do. It was scary being the student not knowing what I wanted to do with my life anymore. My academic advisor told me more about NSC’s psychology major. Psychology is such an interesting subject matter to me, as it deals with how people think and react. This sat really well with me, so I became a psychology major.”

Describe the classroom environment at NSC.

“At NSC, the classes are really small. You develop bonds with the people in your classes. They’re not just your class mates, they’re your friends. You learn a lot from your teachers, but from your fellow students as well.

How does it feel to be a part of a young college such as NSC?

“Being at the ground level of NSC is wonderful. When people ask me where I go to school, I’m so proud to tell them NSC’s story. You really develop a sense of ownership. Many people might feel when they go to college they have to fit into a certain mold. At NSC, you can come as you are and people accept you. This is a place of opportunity and a melting pot of diversity.”

Looking forward to your graduation day, what comes to mind?

“I’m the first person from my family that will graduate from college. Just thinking about it gives me goose bumps! My parents have been the drive behind me pursuing my dreams. They have always told me to live life so I never felt like I wished I could have, would have, or should have done something…for them to see me graduate from college will be absolutely wonderful.”
