Computer Use:

The NSC Library subscribes to the Nevada System of Higher Education (NSHE) 'Computing
Resources Policy.'

The computers located in the NSC Library and in the great hall at the Dawson building are available on a first come, first serve basis to all NSC student, faculty, and staff members.

Recreational game playing is allowed on these computers as long as playing time does not become excessive. If a student or faculty member wishes to use the computer for academic purposes and there are no other computers available to them, the game player must relinquish their seat to the waiting patron.

Novell Accounts:

Students are responsible for monitoring their personal Novell account. Unauthorized use of a Novell account for printing or accessing library resources will result in disciplinary action.

NSC and the Library are not responsible for any information or print credit that is lost or deducted from an individual's Novell account. Itis the student's responsibility to make surethey log out of the computer when they are finished or they run the risk of allowing others access to their Novell account.

Cellular Phones:

Cellular phone use is prohibited inside the library. Phones should be switched to a silent ring or turned off prior to entering the library.

Borrowing Library Materials:

NSC students, faculty, staff, and members of other NSHE institutions, may check out materials from the NSC Library provided that they have a valid student, faculty or staff library card from their host institution. The patron's library account must be in good standing in order to borrow materials.

Unattended Children:

Children who are not yet in high school cannot be left unattended in the library. In the event that this happens, Public Safety will be contacted. Parents assume all responsibility for their children's actions while they are in the library whether they are unattended to or not by the parent.

Parents who are accompanied by their children while in the library must ensure that their children's behavior does not interfere with other patrons using the library. If this occurs, the parent(s) will be politely asked to remove their children from the library environment.

Children and Library Electronic Resources:

The NSC Library is intended for academic use, it is our goal to provide an environment and resources that are conducive to the academic success of the students and faculty of NSC. Children who are supervised by a parent or guardian may use the electronic resources in the library for academic purposes. If they are not engaged in academic pursuits using the electronic resources, children may be asked to concede their computer or other resources for enrolled students or NSC faculty.

Food and Beverages:

All beverages must be in re-sealable containers. Currently, the library allows food to be consumed by patrons while using library services. If trash is left behind on a continual basis and/or becomes a nuisance, the library staff reserves the right to refuse food and beverage privileges to patrons.

Tobacco, Alcohol, & Controlled Substances:

The NSC Library abides by the NSC Student Code of Conduct; in accordance with this document, possession and/or use of alcohol and controlled substances are not allowed inside the library. Library patrons who are under the influence of alcohol, controlled substances, or participating in disruptive behavior while under the influence of such substances are subject to disciplinary action as outlined in the NSC Student Code of Conduct manual. The use of tobacco is prohibited inside the library at all times.

Animals:

All animals are prohibited inside the library at all times with the exception of assistance animals.

Personal Property:

The library and its staff are not responsible for any personal property left, damaged, or stolen in the library branches or media center.

Disruptive Behavior:

The library is intended for academic purposes at all times. All library patrons are expected to
display acceptable behavior while they are in the library or using its services. Conduct prohibited
inside the library include, but is not limited to, the following:

  • Loud or boisterous behavior
  • Using radios (walkmans, iPods, or other sound devices) which create excessive noise, audible to other patrons
  • Cellular phone use
  • Using abusive or threatening language
  • Hostile or abusive treatment of library staff or patrons
  • Sleeping
  • Blatant sexual behavior
  • Carrying or using weapons (real or simulated)
  • Solicitation of library patrons or staff (including donations, purchase, etc)
  • Conducting unauthorized surveys, petitions, distribution or pamphlets ect.
  • Willfully annoying another person
  • Remaining in the library after normal closing hours
  • Electronic resources (like computers and networks) should not be excessively used for recreational use
  • Loitering on library premises
Damage to Library Property:

Any behavior that could result in damage to library property or equipment is prohibited. Patrons and borrowers are responsible for all damages caused to library materials that is incurred while the items are in their care.

Criminal Behavior:

Any criminal activity or behavior will be reported to local law enforcement agencies. Prohibited behavior and activity may include, but is not limited to:

  • Assault, including verbal threats
