The School of Education has partnered with several K-16 institutions across the state to offer programs that lead to various educational benchmarks ranging from professional development and training credits to degrees, teaching licenses, and endorsements. The School of Education post-baccalaureate coursework, endorsements, 2+2 agreements, and Alternative Route to Licensure (ARL) programs are just a few of the options students have to meet their unique educational needs.
The 2+2 agreement, for example, with Western Nevada College offers students in Northern Nevada the opportunity to take their core courses at Western Nevada College and their upper level education courses at Nevada State College. The students who earn an associate of arts degree (A.A.) with Western Nevada College are able to transfer their A.A. degree to Nevada State College and continue their education resulting in a four-year degree.. The School of Education offers courses at WNC in various formats, including in-person, online, and via ITV. Currently the 2+2 applies to the elementary education degree with plans to expand to other degrees in the future.
Another program to highlight is the ARL program. The Clark County School District partnered with the School of Education in 2004 to be an Alternative Route to Licensure (ARL) Partnership Institution. The School of Education offers rigorous pedagogy and content courses to ARL participants that lead to a teaching license in high need areas such as secondary math and science. This ongoing partnership is expected to continue and grow in order to meet the growing and changing needs of our K-12 constituients across the state.
