Orientation FAQs

Do I have to attend both the Orientation Program and the Scorpion Welcome? Why?
Yes. All students who are new to Nevada State College must attend both programs. We provide this opportunity to assist you in transitioning to Nevada State College.

Will I have the opportunity to take the placement test during the New or Transfer Orientation & Registration Program?
This program is designed for students who have already taken their placement tests. This is an important step in being able to register for your classes. To schedule your math and English placement test, contact the Placement Test Coordinator at 702. 992.2507.

What if I do not attend either the Orientation or Scorpion Welcome programs?
These programs are planned for your benefit and are full of important information that will be helpful to you and your family as you begin at Nevada State College. Please attend if you can.

Is family orientation mandatory?
While we strongly recommend that students bring a parent, guardian, friend or other source of support to the Orientation and Scorpion Welcome programs, it is not mandatory. Nevada State College is committed to the success of its students on all levels, which is why we have tailored a program especially for those who serve to support the student outside of the college.

Should I attend the Orientation & Registration Program, the Scorpion Welcome Program, or both?
If you can only attend one program, it is suggested that as a new student, you attend the Orientation and Registration program. This program is full of information that will help you be successful as a student at NSC, including information on academic requirements and financial aid.

As a transfer student, especially if you are coming from another institution in Nevada, it is suggested that you attend the Scorpion Welcome. Student services do differ from institution to institution and this program is focused on introducing you to the resources that are available to you at NSC.

How do I become an Orientation Team Leader?
Anyone who has been a student for at least a semester and maintained a 2.0 grade point average is eligible to become an Orientation Team Leader. This is the perfect opportunity to gain leadership and team building skills, mentor new students and make new friends while having a great time.
