Attending a new college is a momentous occasion in a student’s life. We recognize that this time can be fun and exciting but is also a bit scary. The Student Orientation and Scorpion Welcome programs are designed to provide assistance and guidance throughout your college career, whether you have just graduated from high school or are transferring from another college. We are delighted to answer questions, address concerns and offer a hand in finding resources to help you get off to the right start and enjoy a successful finish at Nevada State College.
With these goals in mind, we have planned comprehensive orientation and welcome programs that are unique to first year or transfer students and the family and friends who support them.
There are three types of programs offered for you to attend.
The New Student Orientation and Registration Program has multiple sessions held throughout the year. This program, which is mandatory for all new first year students before registering for courses, focuses on providing information on academic requirements, financial aid, academic advising, and registering for fall classes.
The first New Student Orientation session for students admitted for Fall 2012 is scheduled for Friday, April 13, 2012. If you need to attend this program, please RSVP as soon as possible. (Please note: an RSVP is required in order to attend this program.)
There will be more dates set for the remainder of the summer. They will be listed here when they are avaliable. If you would like to be called once these dates are set, please e-mail your name, NSHE ID number, phone number, and best time to call to Jerica Turek, the orientation coordinator.
The Transfer Student Online Orientation Program is brand new as of this summer, allowing transfer students to learn more about Nevada State College in an hour or less. This program is required for all newly admitted transfer students. You can access this program online here. (Please note: You must enter your NSHE ID number in order to recieve credit for completing this program.)
The Scorpion Welcome focuses on introducing you to important campus resources, how to get involved on campus, NSC faculty and staff and your fellow students, and is open to all newly admitted students for each fall semester (new and transfer). Each student can bring up to two guests with them.
This year's Scorpion Welcome program will be held on Saturday, August 18, 2012. More information regarding the program will be posted in July.
Both programs are important for you and your family to attend before you begin your first semester at Nevada State College.
