Applying to the Program FAQ's

  • What are the application deadlines?
The deadline for the Fall semester entry is March 15 and the deadline for the Spring semester entry is September 15. However, applicants must first apply to Nevada State College as a pre-nursing major and send all official transcripts to the Office of Admissions at least six weeks prior to submitting an application to the School of Nursing. Only admitted students of Nevada State College may apply to the School of Nursing.  RN to BSN students can be admitted at the beginning of any semester.
  • What is the TEAS?
The Test of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS) is a pre-entry test used to evaluate the academic preparedness of students entering the School of Nursing and must be taken before the application deadline for the semester in which you are applying. The TEAS is not required for RN to BSN students.
  • How do you determine which students are admitted in the program?
Applicants to the Regular, Part-Time, and Accelerated tracks are ranked based on the number of points they receive within the admission ranking system. Points are awarded based on the following criteria:
    • Program Specific GPA (nursing prerequisites)
    • TEAS Score
    • Grades received in Biology 223, 224, & 251
    • Number of credits completed at NSC
    • Number of nursing prerequisites not completed at time of application
    • Bonus Points: Completion of NURS 100 at time of application

Please review the Admission Ranking System sheet (.pdf) for a complete list of the possible points for each of the above criteria and their weighted value.

  • When will applicants be notified of admission decisions?
Applicants will be notified of the admission decision by letter within one month after the application deadline.
  • Is there a waiting list?
The School of Nursing does not keep a waiting list. After admission decisions are made, a ranked alternate list is developed for that semester only. Students placed on the alternate list are notified by letter. If an admitted student decides not to accept the admission, the student at the top of the alternate list will be notified.
  • What is the process for applicants who are not accepted ?
Students who are not accepted may re-apply for the next semester. Applicants who were not accepted are strongly advised to meet with their Academic Advisor well in advance of the next application due date to develop an academic plan and hopefully improve chances of admission for the next time.
