Teacher Preparation Program

Courses in the School of Education are aligned with specific key performances that are assessed using Charlotte Danielson’s Framework for Teaching. Students are encouraged to archive their key performance assignments in an electronic portfolio that documents their learning progress throughout their years of study. The ongoing portfolio helps the student process the feedback they receive from faculty and peers. It also enables the students to look for patterns in their academic work so they can take more control of their own development and become a more autonomous learner. The purpose of our portfolio is to make it more transparent to the student and others who seek to understand this important educational framework. The portfolio provides actual, accessible qualitative and quantitative performance data with which graduates can create an electronic resume for potential employers or for graduate schools.

Rubrics

Reflection on one’s teaching style and skill is an important qualification of an effective teacher. To address this critical component of teacher preparation, students are required to conduct self evaluations. Each time a student presents a lesson to a class (whether it is in a Nevada State College education class or to a school district classroom) the student must conduct a self evaluation on his/her level of performance in each of the four domains, based on Charlotte Danielson’s rubrics.

Rubrics
The rubric self evaluation is for one’s reflective development and while it will not be graded, all the rubrics below must be included in the student’s portfolio.
