Prospective Student Teachers

Applications for your student teaching internship will need to be completed during the semester prior to your internship. All application materials must be received no later than the application deadline.

You will need to meet with their advisor two semesters prior to the internship to map out your final sequence of courses.

Internship Requirements

  1. Acceptance into the  Teacher Preparation Program
  2. Have a minimum grade point average of 2.5 or better.
  3. Completion of all required courses.
  4. Met with a Nevada State College School of Education academic advisor two semesters prior to student teaching. Students interested in scheduling an internship advising appointment can contact the School of Education at: (702) 992-2515.
  5. Proof of possession of $1 million in liability insurance through Nevada State Education Association. An application can be found online at the NSEA Web site Students must submit a copy of their receipt as documentation. To receive a paper application, please contact the School of Education at: (702) 992-2515.
    Fall 2012 Applicants
    The NSEA does not accept membership applications for 2012-13 until June 1, 2012. Please do not apply for membership prior to this date. Proof of insurance is due no later than June 15, 2012.
  6. Clear FBI fingerprinting check. A receipt issued by the Clark County School District or other school district is considered acceptable documentation
    1. Northern Nevada Students: Students will need to contact their school district regarding their fingerprinting policy.
    2. Southern Nevada Students: Fingerprinting may only be done on assigned days. Students must have prints taken at the next available date.

      CCSD Fall Fingerprinting Session
      Dates: July 1-31
      CCSD Spring Fingerprinting Session
      Dates: December 1-31 
  7. A passing score on the Praxis II subject area and pedagogy exams. The Praxis II exam must be taken prior to the completion of student teaching. It is strongly recommended that you take the test the semester before you start student teaching.  Information regarding exam dates, registration and testing sites for the Praxis II can be found online at the Education Testing Service website.
  8. A valid Substitute Teaching License in Nevada. An application can be found on the Nevada Department of Education Web site 
    1. Southern Nevada Students: The substitute license is currently an option for students interning within the Clark County School District but is highly recommend.
    2. Northern Nevada Students: The substitute license is a requirement for northern Nevada school districts. Please note that students interning in the Washoe County School District must be hired as a substitute teacher and be on “active status” prior to the internship
