Teacher Preparation Program Admission

All students seeking a degree or certification will need to apply for admission to the Teacher Preparation Program before registering for initial 300 and 400 level education courses. It is strongly recommended you submit your application at least one semester before you plan to begin your upper division course work. Failure to do so may result in your inability to register for courses.

Applications for admission to the program are accepted twice each year. All application materials must be received no later than the application deadline.

Criteria for Admission

1. General admission into Nevada State College. Students who have never attended Nevada State College student will need to apply for college admission through the Office of Admissions.
2. Met with a Nevada State College School of Education academic advisor. Students interested in scheduling an advising appointment can contact the School of Education at: (702) 992-2515.
3. Completion of all 200-level education courses prior to entry into the upper division major.
4. Minimum cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 2.5 or better.

Admission Requirements

 (Items 1-3 must be included at the time of submittal. Incomplete applications will not be accepted.)

1. 500-word typed essay entitled: “Why I Want to Become a Teacher.” (1 inch, double spaced, 12 pt font) The essay will be reviewed by one to three faculty members using an:

2. Signed Disposition form.
3. Official copy of passing scores on the reading, writing, and mathematics portions of the  Pre-Professional Skills Test (PPST or Praxis I).
